In 1989, the Berlin Wall came down. With it revealed a thriving subculture of music, fashion and art that had been overshadowed by political turmoil.
For east Berliners, techno meant more than for the west Berliners: they believed that new things are about to happen, and that techno music didn’t sound like the old songs — that sounded like the future. For them, it was the soundtrack of liberation.
